A sophisticated visual identity for Floating Mountain, a boutique winery in New Zealand's Waipara region. The goal was to move away from traditional estate-style wine packaging towards a bold, modern and tactile look. High-contrast typography, subtle gloss finishes and minimal secondary details reflect both the boutique vineyard and the distinctive terroir of the Waipara valley.

/ Challenge
Dark-on-dark print finishes need precise calibration between the matte paper and the spot varnish. Keeping the brand name legible everywhere — from dim restaurant interiors to bright retail shelves — meant carefully balancing the height, weight and gloss of the type, and the relationship between the dominant lettering and the smaller white details.

Custom typographic layout
A high-contrast serif in a stacked, wrap-around composition (“Float-ing Moun-tain.”) that echoes the scale of a mountain landscape.
Tone-on-tone tactile labels
Gloss black spot varnish over matte charcoal label stock for a premium effect that shifts under ambient light.
Clear varietal hierarchy
Crisp white type beside the brand block for varietal (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay), region and vintage.
Packaging ecosystem
The typographic system carried onto shipping cartons and kraft outer boxes for a consistent presence on shelf and at the door.
